The unstable and fragile situation of the exploration of void is represented by ceramic (Asian & Greek) and kintsugi effects. The possibility of finding a way out of this situation is represented by the emergency exit symbol.
Just as something is born from nothing, the artist believes that void is not an end, but a beginning. It is a rebirth from a small death. From this point of view, he decided to use ceramic patterns that represent rebirth. For example, snake scales(triangular patterns), phoenixes, lotuses, cloud and water patterns, Greek key, Persephone and Demeter.
The copium flower has the face of an empty can. The empty can represents emptiness and death. They combined with sufficiency and life so that this idol was created. It echoes the Greek mythological primordial god Chaos (XAOÇ), which means “empty space with a large mouth.” Planted in a pot of Greek colors, the flower represents the five colors of Buddhism. -

ABOUT ARTIST
Yoshihito Suzuki
Born in Tokyo in 1987, based in Barcelona.
After graduating in Intercultural Communication from Hosei University in 2010, studied printmaking at La Llotja in Barcelona from 2012 to 2013.
Has participated in group exhibitions and art festivals mainly in Spain. In 2023, held his first solo exhibition “Band-aid for dinosaur" at Centro Cívico Guinardó. Mainly exhibiting his work at the gallery La Plataforma.
The artist is interested in climate change and mass extinction occurring worldwide, and the main theme of his work is “Approach of the artificial and the natural". He also attempts to bring together other opposing concepts such as the sacred and the vulgar, the past and the present, through works that use ready-made objects found around us as their motifs. Now he is focusing on empty cans among artificial objects as the motif. Dumped empty cans with its mouth open represent "death" and the "emptiness" that the contemporary society feels. Through the creation of sculptures of idols and kitschy monster with empty cans as heads, the artist attempts to surface the timeless immateriality.
