Logic and expression. Order and chaos. Geometry and gesture. In the “Fugitive Architectures” series, Alex Markwith balances these dualities through mixed media painting. Working between the canvas and computer, Markwith takes photos of his works to create distorted digital images, which are printed on paper and used as collage. Digital artifacts recall glitches amid a field of abstract brushwork and hand-drawn linear grids. There is a sense of gradual construction, development or movement through provisional urban archaeology, without clear beginning or end.
